Description:

A 1970's teak wood Iranian Punjabi chair featuring intricate hand carved detailing and seats woven with durable rope. A Punjabi chair, commonly known as a pidha or peerha, is a traditional low set tribal chair from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. This chair is designed and manufactured by M. Hayat & Bros in Peshawar, Pakistan. Original label on the foot of the chair. 

Traditionally gifted or used in wedding ceremonies, where a new bride is symbolically seated upon a decorated pidha when arriving at her new home.  Used today as rustic statement pieces or accent chairs in ethnic and bohemian interior design.

In Very good vintage condition.
